Department of Analytical Chemistry

Department of Analytical Chemistry (General Introductıon)

“Chemical Analysis” is the basic research area at the Department of Analytical Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, Ege University. In this context, it is aimed to develop and apply electrochemical, spectrophotometric, chromatographic and other analytical methods for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of drugs, organic and inorganic materials. It is also aimed to educate individuals who have basic knowledge in Analytical Chemistry and drug analysis, have gained analytical thinking skills, can produce ideas that applicable to industry and national and international research projects.

There are 6 research laboratories for postgraduate research studies besides the application laboratory for undergraduate students in the Analytical Chemistry Department. All the apparatus and devices that can be used in analytical studies are fully equipped both in these laboratories and in the Pharmaceutical Sciences Research Centre (FABAL), which is situated in our faculty. Using these opportunities, national and international quality projects and researches are carried out and published in our department.

Research Areas

Especially in the field of health, many academic studies, national and international projects for the development of electrochemical, spectroscopic and chromatographic methods and their applications are carried out in the 6 research laboratory situated in our department. These researches on the basic areas of analytical chemistry are summarized below;

1. Electrochemical Methods

a. Electrochemical biosensors used in analyzes for determination of drug and drug-DNA interactions
b. Development of DNA, RNA, protein and cell-based biosensors and designs devoted to clinical analysis
c. Genosensor studies for the determination of nucleic acid-based biosensors, mutations and pathogenic microorganisms at DNA level
d. Disposable sensor systems for electrochemical DNA analysis
e. DNA/protein and cell-level chip technology and substructure systems
f. Development of nanomaterial-based biosensor systems.

2. Spectroscopic Methods

Drug, environment and health studies such as antioxidant capacity determination, trace elements with molecular and atomic spectroscopic methods are carried out.

3. Chromatographic Methods (Separation Methods)

a) Development of isocratic / gradient separation methods using conventional detectors (HPLC-DAD, HPLC-FLD, HPLC-ECD) and mass detectors (LC-MS, LC-MS/MS).
b) Multidetector studies.
c) Validation studies of developed methods.
d) In-needle derivatization studiese) Development of new derivatizers (derivatization reagent).
